The course introduces students to the history and evolution of plant biomechanics with a specific focus on grass species and crops. A multiscale understanding of biomechanical structures and features will be presented. The finite element method is an essential tool for the design and research activities performed in engineering companies and academic institutions. The goal of this course is to introduce students to the use of the finite element method by focusing on a range of engineering applications and employing an interactive commercial finite element code. Students will learn how to solve various problems from several mechanical engineering areas including solid mechanics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
