Represent academic program and college at recruiting and other public events; develop skills in professional relations, leadership, communication, networking, and public speaking. Attending university and college recruiting events, visiting high schools or community colleges, and communicating with prospective students is required.

CAA 3800 United States History of the Built Environment (3 credits)

This course provides students with an understanding of the built environment of the United States from the pre-colonial period to the present; the primary focus will be American architecture to meet the Secretary of the Interior (SOI) standards, but the course will also encompass interiors, landscape architecture, and urbanism. Students will gain familiarity with common forms, styles, and terminology, with an emphasis on understanding social and cultural context and significance. Typically Offered: Varies.

CAA 4800 Applied Historic Preservation Practice (3 credits)

Introduces students to the various types of work in the preservation field in private and public practice and provides experience preparing common types of preservation documentation to professional standards. Course topics include certified local governments, GIS, historic tax credits, local preservation commissions and planning, National Register of Historic Places, non-profits, Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, and Section 106. CAA 5010 Integrated Multidisciplinary Process Seminar (1 credit, max 4)

Seminar bringing together MSIAD students and any interested CAA graduate students to learn and apply the concepts, mindsets, and design thinking methods as fundamental skills for integration. CAA faculty will present their research/projects regularly and discuss their design methods to support projects and research development. Typically Offered: Fall and Spring.
